Global Architecture Brigades at Penn
PEOPLE
We are a group of 15 undergraduate Architecture students at the University of Pennsylvania looking to make a difference. Global Architecture Brigades is a nonprofit organization in which students raise money to design and build infrastructures in rural and developing communities.
In May 2015, nine Penn students traveled to El TomatÃn, Honduras and worked with members of this town to build a community bank. This bank helped empower the small community and encourage trade relations with neighboring towns.
This year, we aim to return to Honduras for one week and partake in a water brigade. We will spend our week designing and building a water filtration system to another communigyt in need. Through this
opportunity, we hope to gain exposure to the many realms of the architectural profession, from site analysis to communicating with homeowners. More importantly, we hope to use our skills as a catalyst for change in a struggling community.
Our top priority is empowering the communities that we serve. It is through exposure to the harsh economic conditions in Honduras that we can appreciate our true wealth, including access to healthcare, education, and shelter.
